I hope you all had a wonderfully delicious Thanksgiving Day this year. 2020 has been an interesting year, to say the least, and whether you were able to spend it with close relatives (or not) I wish you all nothing but good health and so much love. This year I personally volunteered myself as the official pie baker. DISCLAIMER: I have never EVER made pie before. Baking has always been extremely intimidating (and frustrating) for me. When it comes to the kitchen, I personally feel, that there are two types of people: the bakers and the cooks. At times you will have the rare unicorns who are badass at both. I have always considered myself, a cook, but I have been wanting to challenge myself lately so I figured why not bake a pie….. from SCRATCH!? I was recommended a fabulous apple pie recipe from the blog www.sallysbakingaddition.com and I was excited to try it out! Sally’s Caramel Apple Pie sounded so freaking good, I knew right then and there that I’d found a winner. To achieve this delicious masterpiece you will need to follow Sally’s PIE CRUST RECIPE, her homemade SALTED CARAMEL SAUCE RECIPE, and the final SALTED CARAMEL APPLE PIE RECIPE.
A few things I learned from making my very first apple pie… you must follow instructions exactly as they are written. Purchasing a pastry cutter and a silicone pastry brush will make the job a whole lot easier. And if you are trying to keep things on the “healthier” side (ingredient wise), opt for Spectrum Organic Vegetable Shortening rather than using Crisco.
