Pulled pork recipes are some of the yummiest recipes out there! There are so many dishes that you can make with pulled pork, but how exactly do you cook a bone in pork butt in the crockpot? 

Slow cooking a pork butt (or pork shoulder) is one of the easiest ways to make pulled pork. With just a few simple ingredients, you’ll have a delicious and ready to shred bone in pork butt ready to enjoy in just 10 hours.

Some of my favorite recipes to make with pulled pork and carnitas tacos and BBQ pulled pork sandwiches. There are so many recipe out there that can be made with bone in pork butt made in the crockpot.

What is the difference between pork butt and pork shoulder?

You might think that pork butt some from… you know, the pork’s rear, right?! Well, they actually both come from from the foreleg of the pig. Pork butt is just located higher on the foreleg while pork shoulder is located farther down.

Both cuts are fairly fatty and ideal to slow cook in a crockpot. You can make so many delicious recipes from both pork butt and pork shoulder.

How to cook a bone in pork butt in the crockpot

Slow cooking a chunk of pork butt is fairly simple to do in a crockpot. All you need are a few ingredients and a reliable slow cooker that can tenderize this fatty piece of meat in about eight to ten hours.

Here is everything you need to cook a bone in pork butt in the crockpot

  • 5 pound bone in pork butt
  • juice from one orange
  • 1 teaspoon of pink salt
  • one pack of Siete brand carnitas seasoning
  • 1/2 cup chicken stock

This is how simple it is to make pulled pork using bone in pork butt

  1. Rub down your bone in pork butt with the Siete brand carnitas seasoning (or something similar) plus salt.
  2. Then place the pork butt in the crockpot.
  3. Pour in the juice of one orange and chicken stock.
  4. Slow cook on LOW for 10 hours.
  5. Once it’s done, carefully remove bone in pork butt from crockpot and place in a large Pyrex.
  6. Remove the bone and excess fat and shred by using two forks.

Ingredients
  • 5 pound bone in pork butt
  • juice of 1 orange
  • 1/2 cup chicken stock
  • 1 pack Siete carnitas seasoning
  • 1 tsp salt
Directions
Step 1
Rub the bone in pork butt with the Siete carnitas seasoning plus salt.
Step 2
Add the seasoned bone in pork butt to the crockpot
Step 3
Pour in orange juice and chicken stock
Step 4
Cook on low for 10 hours
Step 5
Once done, carefully remove the bone in pork but from crockpot and place in a Pyrex dish. Remove the bone and excess fat.
Step 6
Using two forks, shred the pork meat.
